Wicked Designs by Lauren Smith Review

The League of Rogues takes what they want—but have they taken on too much?

For too long Miss Emily Parr has been subject to the whims of her indebted uncle and the lecherous advances of his repulsive business partner. Her plan to be done with dominating men forever is simple—find herself a kind husband who will leave her to her books.

It seems an easy enough plan, until she is unexpectedly abducted by an incorrigible duke who hides a wounded spirit behind flashing green eyes.

Godric St. Laurent, Duke of Essex, spends countless nights at the club with his four best friends, and relishes the rakish reputation society has branded him with. He has no plans to marry anytime soon—if ever. But when he kidnaps an embezzler’s niece, the difficult debutante’s blend of sweetness and sharp tongue make him desperate for the one thing he swears he never wanted: love.

Yet as they surrender to passion, danger lurks in Godric’s shadowed past, waiting for him to drop his guard—and rob him of the woman he can’t live without.

So when I started Wicked Designs I thought it would just be the standard Historical Romance, but not even half way through the first chapter I realized how wrong I was!
From the very beginning this book was different from everything I have ever read, to start with you get equal amounts of male point of view to female points of review. Both main characters have flaws, it’s not just one sided, as most Historical romances have. I also love the fact the male characters are all aware of their flaws and either try to improve themselves or just make fun of themselves and each other.
I love the character Emily. Although she has a sharp tongue sometimes, she does have a caring heart and a sometimes a devious mind. Godric is a little more complex, but ultimately a loveable character.
I give Wicked Design 10 out of 10

Heart Breaker by Harper Kincaid Review

HEART BREAKER
Break on Through, #2
(July 28, 2015,  Samhain Publishing)

Love wasn’t in the script…

Former man-eater Samantha Lockhart has been an actress long enough to be able to
spot a smooth-talking player a mile away. Dark-haired, bourbon-eyed, a wicked smile…
Kyle Masterson is one of the best.
From his bad-boy motorcycle boots to his good-ole-boy Southern drawl, everything
about Kyle screams sex appeal. But after a tragedy hits close to home, Sam tries to
convince herself she’s done with players on and off the stage.
Kyle, a V-twin-riding divorce attorney, has witnessed enough horror stories of love gone
wrong to know that while women are welcome in his bed, they’re definitely not in his
future. But once the petite, mercurial redhead catches his eye, he can’t think of anything
—or anyone—else.
Sam’s trust doesn’t come easy, but the more time they spend together, the deeper they
both fall. Yet just as they’re breaking through each other’s barriers, someone who
doesn’t like being upstaged makes a deadly play of his own. And if Sam refuses, she
may not be able to breathe a word to anyone…ever.
Warning: Contains a small-town thespian who isn’t easily fooled and a lawyer with a
weakness for V-twin engines and sassy redheads.

After Samantha and Jess lost both their parents in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. Sam turned into herself, gave up her life as an actress and basically shut herself inside her parents’ home, under the guise of redecorating it to sell. But what she really did was fall apart and was unable to cope with the world. Eight months later her sister Jess dragged her out to a friend’s party, where she met Kyle. Kyle pursued Sam hard, until the night she finally gave in, only to be left the next morning with a note and cab fare.
But then after A LOT of negotiation, Sam takes Kyle back! While you think they would head off to their Happily Ever After! That would be a big NOPE! But when Sam is attacked and abducted, will Kyle save her in time?
As this is the second book I am reviewing that was written by Harper Kincaid, I was excited to get stuck in. But Heart Breaker is not as it would seem, the tone of the book is very different; the plot is a lot darker and the characters harsher. But the storyline and writing were superb! And the story just sucked me right in!
I give Heart Breaker 9 out of 10.

A woman with the heart of a revolutionary,
The mind of a pragmatist,
And the inappropriate humor of your tipsy BFF...

Born in California and raised in South Florida, I've moved around like a gypsy with a bounty on my head ever since. Along the way, I've worked as a community organizer, a professional matchmaker, an art teacher, a popular blogger, and a crisis counselor (to name a few). All the while, longing to have the guts and follow-through to do what I really wanted: to write and become a published author. That wish has finally come true and I am tickled pink with glitter over this good piece of fortune.

What else? Hmm...I love indie, lo-fi, complaint rock played on vinyl, wearing black because it's slimming, the theater, well-informed optimism, happy endings (both kinds),and making those close to me laugh 'til they snort. I'm a self-admitted change junkie, loving new experiences and places, but have now happily settled in the cutest lil' town, Vienna, Virginia.

Rule Breaker by Harper Kincaid Review

Rule Breaker
Break on Through #1
By: Harper Kincaid
Releasing March 3rd, 2015
Samhain

Just one more can’t hurt…right?

Re-belle-ious, free-spirited Lauren Renwick has decided it’s time to trade her wings for roots. That means no more bad boys, no more foolish choices. Yet when she’s stood up on New Year’s Eve, her resolution to stick to her Mama’s Rules for Dating weakens. Especially when she spots sex-in-leather-and-tattoos, Jackson Sullivan.

One look at Lauren, and Jackson is hell-bent on getting her on the back of his Harley and riding straight for his bed. Their night together is an erotic rush that has a new word popping up on his horizon—forever.

Lauren tries to convince herself he’s just one last fling to get bad boys out of her system, yet she finds herself falling hard and fast for a man with a stalker ex and a meddling Irish family. Plus, he has zero chance of passing her uptight parents’ inspection.

Jackson has Lauren’s back, but if she wants all of his heart, she’ll have to meet him halfway—by ditching rules that hold her prisoner, and learning to stand up for what she really wants.
Warning: Contains several highly practical rules for dating—all of which will be broken in the most wicked ways possible, thanks to a domineering alpha male who knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it...rules be damned.

WOW! What a book! Rule Breaker has literally reduced me to tears, I’m having a serious book hangover after this, but boy is it worth it.
Lauren is a nice southern girl, who has lived a hippy life style for the last few years, much to her parents dislike. So Lauren buckles under the pressure from her parents and dates someone they would have approved of. Well that is until New Year’s Eve, where we find Lauren in a dive bar, after being dumped by a guy she has been seeing for the last 6 months. She is not really heartbroken, but her pride and trust is hurt.
Then Jackson comes into her life, with his bar and his sleeve of tattoos and for once in her life someone actually gets her…until obstacles like her parents and his ex throws up road block.
I think this book is one of the best contemporary romances that I have read this year. I have never read a Harper Kincaid book before, but I am now planning to read everything she has published. It is very refreshing not to read such a fast pace book. But one that makes your heart slow and enjoy every word.
The writing was smooth and the story delicious, I found no plot holes and the story was neatly tied up with a big bow by the end. I also really love the cover; it really gave me a clear image of who really was in the book.
I give Rule Breaker 10 out of 10 and I send Harper Kincaid a huge virtual hug! Thank you for such an amazing book
