Antiques expert Steve Carlson must face the mistakes of his past to discover a treasure he never imagined: the heart of a vulnerable yet determined widow.
TRUE RICHES Twenty-eight-year-old Victoria Van Orr just lost everything. With the death of her billionaire husband went his mature patience and warm encouragement; and the veneer of acceptance from everyone else. His friends and colleagues now ignore Victoria, and if his son succeeds she just might be forced back to the streets upon which she was raised. But money was never her goal. All she wants is love. Real love.
Antiques expert Steve Carlson knows the value of everything. Pain and betrayal? Those he gave away--and now they're coming back. His worst mistakes were all with one man: an old friend, the son of a father figure, now the stepchild of a beautiful young widow who wants Steve to help her auction off the family estate. To help Victoria, Steve must face his past and become a better man. To find true love, he will discover her surprisingly pure heart, vulnerable yet determined. And beyond price.

Steve tilted his head, his bright blue eyes sizing her up. “Sorry, but I gotta’ ask. Do you always talk like that?”
Victoria felt her cheeks warm. “Whatever do you mean?”
“There.” He studied her again with not-so-subtle curiosity. “You sounded like your late husband James just now. Funny, you don’t seem like the snooty type to me. More like a regular girl.”
His comment touched a nerve like hot wires to stripped cable. Victoria bit back a retort while blood rushed through her ears. She closed her eyes against the sound to clear her head. Twenty-eight was hardly a girl, and she was damn tired of defending her right to be a Van Orr.
For five years she’d tried and failed to fit into the privileged world of her older husband—learning couture, keeping her posture as straight as a modeling school graduate, rounding her O’s when she spoke —apparently fooling no one on either side of the social spectrum in the process.
Defeat swept over her and her shoulders sagged beneath five-thousand dollars’ worth of silk and linen. No matter how hard she tried, she’d forever be exposed as the abandoned kid who’d grown-up in shelters.
Strange though… when she opened her eyes and returned them to Steve Carlson’s handsome face, she sensed his remark was meant as a compliment, and not a reminder that she lacked James’s pedigree. It was like he saw her.
Her. Not James’s luxury-model second wife.
Still, his manners were disgusting. Even store-owner-janitors should know how to behave. Snooty type. Who was he to say that to her? She was a potential client for heaven’s sake.
Victoria stood to leave. She was sick and tired of people voicing their opinions about her and her late husband’s disparate lineage. She’d been bullied and belittled since the day she’d become engaged. “You don’t know me well enough to analyze me, Mr. Carlson.” She kept the annoyance out of her reprimand. The rich had taught her that cool distain wounded more deeply than anger.
Steve grimaced, rubbed his jaw, and then stood to face her, his expression sheepish. He waved her back to her seat. “Please. I’m sorry I offended you. I’m a friend. Really. We’ve gotten off on the wrong foot.”
He ran a hand through his hair and his bicep bulged with the movement. Victoria’s gaze followed the lines and curves of sinew and muscle and took in the military tattoo peeking from the hem of his tee shirt.
She resisted the images that teased her dormant libido, and brought her eyes back to his face. Damn. That didn’t help. Why did this annoying man have to be so good-looking? Her attraction to him only made her feel guilty, like she’d betrayed James’s memory.
Widowhood came with a unique set of baggage.

Rated R – “That’s not the answer I’d hoped for.”
Brandr rooted out a lock from hair falling down her back and pulled it over her shoulder. He concentrated on the red coil, his thumb and forefinger straightening the curl all the way to its tip. Firelight caught rare gold strands. His curious touch could be the wick showering sparks all over her body. A pulse teased soft skin between her legs, and the flesh folds felt heavy.
Still, she had to know. “Do you promise to lay only with me for the rest of your life?” The curl sprang free. “You’re unsure of your future.”
“Yes. Especially with you.”
Brandr’s lids dropped low. Both hands traced arcs across the tops of her breasts. The round curves brimmed over loose cloth she was about to drop. Her arms were heavy and her nipples begged to be touched. Wetness trickled between her legs. She fidgeted, pressing her thighs together, the pressure adding to her misery.
He scowled at his fingers caressing her. “I’m not the best man for you.”
A small line slanted between his brows. If she read him right, the Viking didn’t like how much he craved her breasts. His nostrils flared, and his mouth opened as if he’d devour those curves and not stop.
“That’s not the answer I’d hoped for,” she said weakly.
A shadow passed over Brandr’s face. “I want to be, but I’m not.”
The Viking cupped her high, freckled curves with both hands. Gentle and seeking. She trembled. Her toes pressed hard into the earthen floor. The fierce bahadur battled against his own needs and wants. She covered his hands with hers, seeking connection. She found Brandr’s textures—rough skin, the roped scars born of desperation reaching from his wrist, the play of muscles and sinew on strong, life-saving hands.
Beyond the open shutters, a breeze blew through untended rye fields. The Fyris River beside the fields, the river that would take him away.
“Don’t pull away from me.” His voice was ragged with need. The heels of his hands teased her nipples through the linen with the barest pressure.
The excited tips poked hard against cloth. Her body knew what it wanted— his hands rubbing her skin, his hardness inside her, a connection deep enough to forget where she ended and he began. The future was tomorrow. On the island, she’d untangled his last tortured secret.
Tonight, she’d let the man unravel her.
Years ago I eloped at midnight after my favorite alpha male (Brian) won a game of pool. We got married the next morning in Vegas and life’s been an adventure ever since! We have two teenage boys who keep us hopping. Family vacations often take us to museums, castles, and forts, which my sons like better than roller coasters. Viking and Georgian romance is my happy place to read and write. My other happy places are times with friends, cooking, a little gardening, and a long ago love for exercise that I keep trying to revive.

Welcome all.
Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Ben Burgess Jr author of Daddy’s Girl.

Hi Ben, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

When did you write your first book?
I wrote and published my first book (a Poetry Book) “Times Have Changed and Life is Strange,” in 2008. I promised my junior high school English teacher Mrs. Ladd-Marcus that I would publish my poetry one day, and I felt that was the time to do it.

What does your family think of your writing?
My family has been very supportive and they are proud of me. Whenever I win an award, my Mom is the first to brag to everyone she knows about it. My other family member have also helped to get my name out to the world by sharing my works with their friends.

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
As a child, I wanted to be a pilot! I used to watch a cartoon called “Tail Spin” and I wanted to fly plains.
What do you like to do when you're not writing?
When I’m not writing, I love to hang out with my family and play with my daughter, play basketball, work out, and…play video games! LOL!

Do you write on a computer, dictate or longhand?
I do all of the above. I’m an NYPD Detective so whenever I have a free second; I’ll either jot something down on my Samsung Note 5, use the voice recorder, or type something quickly on my laptop. I like to write things down as soon as they come to me.

Did you make any marketing mistakes or is there anything you would avoid in future?
Book marketing is a gamble. Somethings are effective; some aren’t. With each book, I try to focus on which marketing tools have been the most effective and stick with what works. I don’t continue to use strategies that I feel have not been effective. I also talk to other authors about what has been successful with them; I research companies online, and I read articles in book magazines to gain ideas for successful marketing. The mistakes I’ve made in the past is not doing my homework with book marketing promoters and companies.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this interview with us. Hope the fans have learned some cool new and exciting thing.

"Remember when I told you that we are forever?" He waited for her nod, weakly letting him know that she was trying to understand what he was saying, and then he went on. "I meant what I said to you. Now more than ever, I will always be yours, and you will always be truly mine. We are one now Annie, by the bonds of the heart and by the mixing of our blood. My heart beats in your chest now, as yours beats in mine. Now we are handfast, not by rope but by the ancient blood vows of my people."
Helplessly, Annie nodded, the simple movement bringing the tingling pain back to life. She gasped as the tingling grew worse, watching Malik as his forehead wrinkled with concern. "Malik?" she asked, the pain bringing a shrill tone to her voice. He didn't answer; instead, he kissed her lips, gently peeling their wrists apart and placing her hand lighting on a folded towel he rested on her stomach.
"She didn't bleed the way I expected," he said, turning to call over his shoulder. "I think she'll be okay, and it's done. What now?"
A woman appeared beside him, short and portly with fluffy graying hair. "This has not been done in many years, Nephew," she said. "Now, we can only wait."
