For a decade, Hannah’s life has been pretty close to perfect – she has a great job, she’s married to Mark, and her child-free existence means she’s free as a bird. The only sadness in her life is a fall-out with her sister Diane, who hasn’t spoken to her in over ten years. But now Diane is on her doorstep – and this time, she’s got her teenage daughter Mia in tow.

When Diane asks if Mia can stay with Hannah and Mark for a few days, Hannah is glad of the chance to get to know her niece. But as the days turn into weeks and Diane doesn’t return, Hannah begins to worry. Why hasn’t her sister been in touch?

Diane is carrying a devastating secret that will destroy Hannah’s carefully constructed life. But how much is she willing to reveal – and when will she pick her moment?

I'm going to warn you all now that this book tackles lot of tough and somewhat taboo subjects, so if you are sensitive to the discussion of suicide, please do not read this book.

***
As someone who enjoys listening to true crime podcasts (which is kind of strange to say), As a British ex-pat, I prefer the calm voices of the British ones, and when I chose this book to readI felt from the synopsis that this could quite easily have been real life! Well, at least in the small Essex Town that I am from.

At the beginning of the book, you meet Hannah, who seems to have it all! A quiet life with just her and her husband Markfree of the burdens of children, but that doesn't stop her from secretly wanting them, and the only fly in the ointment is her estrangement from her sister Diana and niece Mia. But that all suddenly changes one day when Diana and Mia arrive on Hannah's doorstep, opening up a can of jealousy, lies, and deceit, that blows everything to smithereens.

My Sister's Lies is truly a mind-blowing book! You honestly cannot believe that someone would be SO hateful to try to destroy everything someone else has! The treachery in this book is a living thing! That just consumes everything and nearly everyone! I cannot express just how much this book has gripped me!

The author S.D. Robertson is a new to me author, but he is a brilliant author, his writing style is thrilling and his plotline was addictive! And I wanted to know more of the aftermath with Mia! If there is one book that should be made into a film (no matter how messed up the subject matter) My Sister's Lies should be it!

I give My Sister's Lies 5 stars!
