SEASON FOR DESIRE by Theresa Romain
Holiday Pleasures # 4
Holiday Pleasures # 4
PROPERLY WICKED
Like her
four sisters, Lady Audrina Bradleigh is expected to marry a duke, lead fashion,
and behave with propriety. Consequently, Audrina pursues mischief with gusto,
attending scandalous parties and indulging in illicit affairs. But when an
erstwhile lover threatens to ruin her reputation, Audrina has no choice but to
find a respectable husband at once.
Who would guess that her
search would lead her to Giles Rutherford, a blunt-spoken American on a
treasure hunt of his own? When a Christmas snowstorm strands the pair at a
country inn, more secrets are traded than gifts—along with kisses that require
no mistletoe—and Audrina discovers even proper gentlemen have their wicked
side…
Lady Audrina Bradleigh was
drugged and abducted and put in a coach headed for Scotland. Thankfully (well
at first), Giles Rutherford, a blunt-spoken American jeweler and his father
Richard, who are on a treasure hunt of their own; managed to rescue her (under
orders from her father) and wait for her Father’s arrival. When her father
finally arrives, with Lady Irvine; he dismisses her lightly and thrusts her
into the care of Lady Irvine and the Rutherford’s, then departs back to London
with the villain, with warning words for Audrina “Don’t show your face in
London unless you are betrothed”. So onwards this mismatched foursome head,
with a puzzle to solve and a potential scandal to cover up, but how will
everyone fair when everything is said and done.
A Season for Desire was a delight
to read, but I would recommend that you read the book slowly, as it tends to
jump from on character to another. If you read fast (like I do), you will miss
parts of the book.
Audrina and Richard characters
are loveable from the get go. Giles and Lady Irvine’s characters are a bit more
spicy and confrontational. I would love to know what happens to Sophie in the
end, but maybe that is in another book.
Some parts of the story does get
a little confusing, and sometime the writing is a little choppy, but the story
shines through and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters. Even
though this book can be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend that you read
the series (which I am now planning to do).
Overall, Season for Desire is a
beautiful story, one that brought tears to my eyes on several occasions and a
story that I will read again and again. I give it a well-deserved 8 out of 10.
Historical
romance author Theresa Romain pursued an impractical education that allowed her
to read everything she could get her hands on. She then worked for universities
and libraries, where she got to read even more. Eventually she started writing,
too. She lives with her family in the Midwest.
